Empowering Communities through Artistry: Discover ONIRU by Amy Weaver. A collection of Handmade Beaded Furniture done in collaboration with Yoruba Craftsmen in Nigeria.

Welcome to the online showcase of ONIRU, Amy Weaver's extraordinary collection of handmade beaded furniture from Nigeria. This curated selection not only reflects Amy Weaver's exceptional design sensibilities, but also stands as a testament to her commitment to sourcing and supporting artisans from vibrant cultures across the globe.

A Fusion of Tradition and Modernity

After purchasing a Yoruba chair and crown (traditionally and culturally the most important beaded pieces), Amy fell in love with the beauty of the pieces and, just as importantly, with the story behind them. With Oniru, Amy is working directly with the artisans to produce a line of furniture pieces and accessories which, while acknowledging the cultural importance of the process, challenges the team to apply their techniques to a much wider range of products. A challenge which they have accepted with tremendous enthusiasm! The result is a fascinating partnership combining east and west, traditional and modern, San Francisco Chic and West African Folk. The opportunities truly are endless!

Economic Empowerment for Local Artisans

It is Amy’s goal to ensure that this collaboration is done with the utmost respect for the artisans, their traditions and their community. Oniru is a true partnership where ideas are shared and the products truly reflect that collaboration. Amy is also committed to ensuring that the artists are acknowledged and compensated fairly. Her goal is to create a sustainable business model providing a steady stream  of work for the artisans, helping them to continue to pass on this incredible skill from generation to generation.  When you purchase an Oniru piece, you can be confident that not only are you getting a beautiful, one-of-a-kind work of art, you are also supporting the Yoruba artisans and helping to share their incredible story.
